JOB DESCRIPTION: Minister of Music and Worship Reports to: Senior Pastor/Personnel Committee The Music Minister is responsible for leading and coordinating the music ministry of First Baptist Church, Angleton ensuring that worship services are vibrant, spiritually enriching, and aligned with the doctrines of the Church. This individual will play a central role in planning and implementing musical elements for worship, fostering a spirit of worship through music, and overseeing choirs, worship teams, instrumentalists, audio/visual ministries, and other creative arts expressions in the church. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Worship Leadership Lead and oversee the musical elements of all weekly worship services, ensuring that music enhances the overall worship experience and aligns with the theological values of First Baptist Church, Angleton. Plan and select music for both regular and special worship events (including a mix of hymns, contemporary worship songs, and special music) in collaboration with the Pastor. Choral and Vocal Leadership Direct and nurture the church choir and worship team, ensuring it is well-prepared for worship services, seasonal performances, and special events. Provide vocal coaching and mentorship to choir members and vocal teams. Coordinate and lead rehearsals for the church choir, worship team, and any other vocal ensembles. Instrumental Ministry Recruit, train, and lead instrumentalist (e.g. keyboardists, guitarists, drummers, etc…) for regular services, special events, and holiday observances. Oversee the maintenance and proper use of musical instruments. Ministry Development Develop and implement programs to involve the entire congregation in the worship ministry Encourage and cultivate the musical talents of the congregation, offering opportunities for members to serve in the worship ministry. Coordinate and promote special music events, concerts, or musical outreach activities within the community. Administrative Duties Maintain the music budget, ensuring appropriate allocation of funds for resources, equipment, and special music events. Collaborate with the worship teams and Senior Pastor on the overall worship service experience and music-related needs. Ensure proper copyright compliance for all music used. Spiritual Leadership Serve as a spiritual leader and role model, promoting the values of worship and discipleship within the church body. Foster a collaborative and supportive environment within the music ministry, encouraging team building, personal growth, and commitment to glorifying God through music. Other duties as developed by the Pastor and the Personnel Committee. QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience A degree in Music, Worship Leadership. Or related field is preferred. Experience leading worship in a church setting, preferably in a Southern Baptist or similar evangelical tradition. Proficiency in at least one instrument (keyboard or guitar is preferred). Strong knowledge of a variety of musical styles and the ability to authentically lead them. Skills and Abilities An ability to express sound biblical and theological bases for worship expression and content Strong leadership and organizational skills with the ability to coordinate a diverse group of volunteers with varying degrees of musical ability and talent into a meaningful and seamless worship service Ability to work collaboratively with church staff, pastors, Angleton Christian School staff, and volunteers to create an effective worship ministry. Excellent vocal and instrumental proficiency, with the ability to teach and mentor others in musical skills. Strong interpersonal communication skills. Flexibility and the willingness to adjust as needs and opportunities present themselves. Spiritual Commitment A deep personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to the Baptist faith and doctrine. Ability to lead with humility and foster a spirit of worship and discipleship among church members. Agreement with and support for the mission/vision of First Baptist Church, Angleton, Texas. Compensation and Benefits: $50,000 to $60,000 salary to be divided as the minister desires in areas of housing allowance, retirement, and insurance. At present, FBCA does not possess the ability to cover medical insurance as a separate benefit.
