PRINCIPAL FUNCTION: To lead balanced ministries related to the children (4yrs-6th grade) by engaging the social, intellectual, and physical lives of children in becoming biblical disciples of Jesus Christ. To include outreach to unchurched children and families. Duties: 1. Conduct or oversee weekly Bible studies and activities, including Sunday School, Children’s Church, and a Wednesday evening program. 2. Children’s Pastor should be a part of the Children’s church rotation schedule with other teachers and also fill-in when a teacher or helper is not present. 3. Directs and plans other children’s events with help and input from the Children’s Committee. Events should be planned at least three months in advance, and, should include service projects, fundraisers, and fun activities. Major events may include Children’s Camp, VBS, Fall Festival, etc. 4. Meets with the Children’s Committee at least once per quarter to plan, schedule, promote, and evaluate all aspects of the Children’s Ministry. 5. Regularly communicates and builds relationships with parents. 6. Recruits volunteers to help in the events and programs of the Children’s Ministry. At least two adults should be present at all children’s activities. 7. Train and develop Children’s Ministry volunteers, ensuring they understand and follow the Children’s Ministry guidelines adopted by the Church. 8. Ensures that all Children’s Ministry volunteers have completed and passed a criminal background check within the last two years. 9. Maintains organized and engaging children’s ministry spaces. 10. Ensures that emergency medical/liability release forms as well as parent/ guardian permission forms for all children are signed by parent/guardian and on file in the Church office prior to leaving Church premises. 11. Oversees and provides recommendations regarding the Children’s Ministry budget. 12. Prepares and presents Children’s Ministry highlights at the quarterly Church Business Meetings. 13. Attends weekly staff meetings and assists the Pastor and staff with the overall ministry of the Church. 14. Actively involved in the life of the church. Relationships: 1. The Children’s Pastor is under the direct supervision of the pastor, who consults with the Personnel Committee on significant staff issues. 2. The Children’s Pastor selects and confers with the Children’s Committee. 3. The Children’s Pastor recruits and oversees the Children’s Ministry volunteers. Qualifications: 1. Experience working with children. 2. Good communication skills with church staff, members of the congregation, and parents who may not attend the church. 3. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. 4. An appreciation and practice of high ethical standards, including church policies. 5. Takes initiative to develop as a Children’s Pastor by continuing to learn strategies and to research teaching resources. Job Specifics 1. This is a part-time position of approximately 10-15 per week, except for weeks of major events, such as VBS or Kids Camp. 2. Salary is $200 per week.
