JOB TITLE Pastor
SUPERVISOR Personnel Committee
JOB STATUS Full-time, exempt
PURPOSE
To preach the word [2 Timothy 4:2]; pastor the people [1 Peter 5 1-3]; and equip the saints to do the work of ministry [Ephesians 4:11, 12] The pastor will lead the church to accomplish its mission, vision, and strategy.
AUTHORITY
The Pastor shall provide daily administrative oversight of all church functions and personnel. The Pastor will also be an ex-officio member of all church committees.
RESPONSIBILITIES
General
As preacher and worship leader, the Pastor shall:
1. Pray about, prepare and present God's word to his people.
2. Lead in planning and conducting church worship services.
3. Officiate on occasions of church ordinances, funerals, weddings, etc.
As planner and program coordinator, the Pastor shall:
1. Organize and lead church staff meetings.
2. Work with the staff in planning, implementing and evaluating church programs.
As staff administrator, the Pastor shall:
1. Assist in the location, interviewing and recommending of candidates for staff positions with duly appointed search committees.
2. Be responsible for recommendations to the Personnel Committee for staff changes, such as reassignments, resignations, and compensation.
3. Provide to the Personnel Committee evaluations of staff performance in the light of their job descriptions.
4. Coordinate and approve time off for vacations, conferences, revivals, trips and travel for staff.
5. Support, encourage, counsel and equip the staff in spiritual growth and problem solving.
6. Delegate to other staff members those responsibilities which he sees are appropriate.
As counselor and care giver, the Pastor shall:
1. Counsel with families and individuals as needed or requested.
2. Give care to those who are troubled.
3. Visit the sick; plan on a regular schedule of visitation as needed.
As teacher and trainer, the Pastor shall:
1. Serve as a resource for others whose responsibility is to teach and train.
2. Work in teaching and training in specialized areas, such as deacons, staff, evangelism and committees.
3. Teach as needed or requested in special Bible studies and classes of the church.
As denominational leader, the Pastor shall:
1. Cooperate with associational, state and denominational leaders in matters of mutual interest and concern.
2. Keep the church informed of denominational development.
3. Promote the shared goals, programs and purposes of the church and denomination.
As student and resource person, the Pastor shall:
1. Be knowledgeable of available literature and materials.
2. Be informed as to new methods and ministries.
3. Continue a program of personal growth and study as a minister of the Gospel.
The Pastor is the Chief Shepherd and an example in thought, word, and deed in personal Christian Discipleship and the Christian Life. The Pastor will be the lead preacher and worship leader and will be the chief staff administrator of the church. The Pastor will be the chief counselor and care giver and take the lead in teaching and training in the church as well as being chief student and a major resource of the church. In denominational affairs, the Pastor will serve as both leader and a resource for the church.
MINISTERIAL STAFF JOB QUALIFICATIONS
A. Personal
1. A salvation experience and to be a committed Baptist.
2. A definite sense of calling to the ministry and this type of work.
3. An intense desire to bring others to Christ and to see them grow to spiritual maturity.
4. A strong moral character and a high level of personal integrity.
5. A reputation of financial responsibility.
6. Evidence of leadership qualities necessary to inspire confidence and cooperation in a ministry that reaches beyond the church into the community.
B. Professional
1. College and Seminary education preferred.
2. A reasonable amount of experience in church activities and administration.
3. To have computer skills and technical skills necessary to the work such as proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and social media.
